Annapurna Region is a unique destination in the world. From the rising altitude, the diverse culture, the hospitable people, and the rich flora and fauna, Annapurna leaves every visitor stunned. Brahmins, Gurungs, Lobas, and Thakalis are the few ethnic groups in this region bringing wide smiles to every tired face and aiding the beauty of the region with their culture and traditions. Musk Deers, Blue Sheep, Griffons, and Monals will give you company while Primulas, Irises, and Rhododendrons will light up your way. You may also catch a glimpse of a snow leopard if you are lucky enough. As many as 128 species of wild mammals representing 9 orders, 27 families have been recorded in the ACA. Seven species of mammals, new to Nepal recorded in this region were Steppe Polecat; Kasmir Musk Deer; Tibetan Gazelle; Pallas’s Cat; Kiang; Wolf and Tibetan Argali. Globally Critically Endangered species like Chinese Pangolin, Endangered species like Kasmir Musk deer, Himalayan Musk deer and Vulnerable species such as the Snow Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Red Panda and Himalayan Black Bear also occur in the area. This book presents an updated number of mammalian species of ACA from various sources. Further research and surveys may discover more species.Mountains are breathtaking but very unpredictable. So, remember to go slow and acquiesce when the mountains ask you to stop. She won’t be going anywhere and when her mood brightens, she will welcome you with arms wide open.
